The Wish
~ A Hellsing
(alternative universe) fanfiction by Kit ~
“To
Seras and to another life without Iscariot and the Millennium Group ...”
His
head felt oddly heavy as he attempted to sit up.
“I
don’t feel so good,” Walter muttered to no one in particular as he massaged his
temples to east the pounding headache. “It must be old age.”
He
smiled as he recalled the events of the night before. It had been Seras’ birthday and at Pip’s insistence, Sir Integra
had consented to a “quiet” birthday party for the young vampire.
Half-way
into the night, the “quiet” revelry had gotten a little boisterous, mostly due
to Pip’s egging and the volume of alcohol being consumed. Even Alucard who had scoffed initially at
the idea of a birthday party for an undead was unable to stay away for long. The last Walter recalled, he was quite sure
Sir Integra was smiling as she and Pip were each chugging away on a bottle,
attempting to outdrink the other.
“We
really must have had too much wine last night,” he said, chuckling. “But it has been a long time since we have
had any reason to celebrate.”
Rubbing
his eyes, he laughed good-naturedly at himself and the “ravages” of old
age. As he opened the door to his
bathroom, the butler was surprised to see a young man staring at him.
It
was a young man with green eyes.
No,
it was an image of a young man with green eyes to be precise.
--------------------
“What in the world,” cried Walter, as his
image mirrored his startled expression.
He rubbed his eyes again before staring at the mirror before him to make
sure that it was not his eyes playing tricks on him.
“Where
in the world am I?” said Walter as he rushed out of the bathroom, examined his
surroundings in wonder. The bed on
which he had gotten up from was unfamiliar.
Scratching his head, he examined the bedroom walls – almost every inch
of the walls were covered with posters of football players. These were definitely not the Spartan cream
walls in Hellsing mansion.
Come
to think of it, it didn’t even feel like it was London anymore.
“Walter
Kum Dorne! Get up now or you’ll be
late” called a familiar but long forgotten voice.
“Mother?”
mouthed Walter in disbelief as the door to his room was flung open by a woman
with auburn hair and green eyes.
“Walter,
how many times do I have to call you?
Wake up and let’s get to school,” the woman grumbled good-naturedly as
she began picking up the books sprawled all over the bedroom floor.
“Mum?”
said Walter uncertainly.
“Yes that would be me,” said the woman looking at him with a slightly quizzed expression. “I’ve been calling you for the last five minutes. Now hurry up and get to school before you are late again.”
--------------------
By
now, Walter was seriously confused. He
had gone to bed last night as a sixty-year old butler with a mild hangover but
had awoken as a nineteen-year teenager - who was now running late for his
college classes.
“If
this is Alucard’s idea of a joke,” he fumed, “we are going to have a few choice
words when this illusion ends.”
Stopping
the school gates, he looked warily at his surroundings. College was a time he did not recall as
being particularly enjoyable.
“Then
again, this is an illusion, it shouldn’t matter what I do right?” he mused
pensively.
Just
then, a female voice chirped behind him happily, “Hey, Walter. What are you thinking about?”
Walter
did not answer. He was too busy staring
at the couple smoking quietly at the school gates.
“That’s
...”
